OUR SERVICES
We work with owners, architects, engineers and contractors to provide field and/or laboratory engineering, testing and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). From these services we prepare and submit data and reports to our clients.

Position Title Engineering Technician I
Location Des Moines, IA
Department Construction Materials Testing
Position Description General Responsibilities:
  Performs basic field and laboratory tests as directed. Exercises selection of test frequency and has the ability to make limited analysis of data.
   
  Specific Responsibilities:
 
  • Soils - Observe placement of fill material, perform control tests, review data for compliance with project requirements, review soil conditions in simple footings or piers, and classification of soil, Proctors, and Atterberg limits.
  • Aggregates - Test specific gravity, absorption, and abrasion.
  • Concrete - Perform unit weight and batch yield. Observe placement. Produce laboratory trial batches.
  • Asphalt - Perform Marshall specimen test, extraction/gradation analysis, and field compaction tests.
  • Steel - Review field erection for compliance, standard fabrication, reinforcing steel placement, and R-meter or Profometer for reinforcing location.
  • Prepares and reviews field boring logs using Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and basic standard rock classifications and site description forms for projects as well as other necessary site documentation such as a listing of observation well supplies installed for each day.
Employment Scope Regular, Full Time, Travel within Iowa
Minimum Education 1. Two years in related technical school or college; or
2. ACI, NICET or DOT certification and attendance at a nuclear safety course.
Minimum Experience 0-3 years

Position Title Geotechnical Drilling Crew Chief

Position Description General Responsibilities:
  Perform geotechnical and environmental drilling operations as directed by Proj ect Engineers while adhering to company and industry standards for sampling, testing, and safety.
   
  Specific Responsibilities:
 
  • Assist in locating borings and meeting with utility companies for utility clearance in the work area.
  • Perform Shelby tube sampling, split-spoon testing, bedrock coring, and other testing and sampling that may be required.
  • Work with the drill helper to make sme accurate boring logs are developed and samples are properly labeled.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner in accordance with company policy and industry standards.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to rigs and other drilling equipment as necessary and maintain up-to-date inspections.
Employment Scope Regular, Full Time, Travel within Iowa and surrounding states
Minimum Qualifications 1. Valid Class B CDL (Class A preferred).
2. Current Iowa Well Contractor/Well Driller Certification.
Minimum Experience Five years of experience operating drill rig (CME, Mobile, etc.).

Position Title Geotechnical Drilling Crewperson
Location Des Moines, IA
Department Geotechnical Drilling
Position Description General Responsibilities:
  Assist drilling crew chief in performing geotechnical and environmental drilling, sampling, and testing as directed by Project Engineers while adhering to company and industry standards for procedures and safety.
   
  Specific Responsibilities:
 
  • Assist in locating borings and meeting with utility companies for utility clearance in the work area.
  • Assist drill crew chief in performing Shelby tube sampling, split-spoon testing, bedrock coring, and other testing and sampling that may be required.
  • Maintain complete boring logs with accurate soil and bedrock descriptions, field test results, sample depths, etc.
  • Accurately label sample containers.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner in accordance with company policy and industry standards.
  • Assist drill crew chief in perfonning maintenance and repairs to rigs and other drilling equipment as necessary.
Employment Scope Regular, Full Time, Travel within Iowa and surrounding states
Minimum Qualifications Valid Iowa Driver's License
Minimum Experience Drilling and/or mechanical knowledge helpful
